In this study, several experimental runs were carried out in order to investigate the best operational conditions for reaching high removal efficiencies. The aim of this research was to investigate the biodegradation of α-pinene in a biological trickling filter with lava rock as packing material, at thermophilic (45ºC) and mesophilic (23ºC) temperatures, firstly without the addition of silicone oil and, secondly, with the addition of 5% silicone oil.
